Commonwealth Yacht Club

A place for members to find & share information about the happenings of the CYC

Steve Smith ran away from the fleet in the Oct 8 CYC race which seems to be a habit with the captain of Hey Jude.  Unexpected strong winds 15 to 20 knots out of the south east caused several scratches and two smaller boats to get little past the start line before retiring.  Hey Jude passed these and soon caught up with Wind Dancer to lead around the first turning mark.  Dave Casey on Blue Moon and H Reed on Keep Movin gave chase but never were able to catch up.  The Flying Scot Blue Moon was at a disadvantage with the large waves rolling in out of the south east.  Keep Movin gradually crept up near the second turning mark but blew a spinnaker set and faded behind.  Even without the spinnaker, speeds of 8+ knots were attained but failed to reel in Smith’s leading Oday 28.   Hey Jude has seemed to blow away the competition the last several weeks winning the largest fleet in the Commonwealth Cup, the KLSC 100K, as well as the KLSC Club Series race for Oct.   Blue Moon finished third followed by Wind Dancer. Treasure Chest and Fine Folly were DNF.
