I hope all of you are just as beautiful as the weather here.  A few people on the pier are still in the boating mode.  Anyone that boats knows that this is the best time of the year to get out on the lake.

The hummingbirds are still passing through and the turtles are hungrier than ever.

The Seafood Boil is coming up September 24 from 5 till 7.  It will be in the tent in Dockers parking lot.  It is a low country boil with potatoes, corn on the cob, sausage, shrimp and snow crab.  Please RSVP with me.  We need a count so we can have enough food.  Come one - come all.

Have a safe trip to the boat.

I think it's about time I got in the groove.  I've been home almost 3 weeks and have most of the kinks worked out.  I'm going to give this a 2nd try. Had it almost completely written when everything mysteriously disappeared. Lots of things have happened in the last 3 weeks--CYC Member Get Together, Marina Day and the 50th Anniversary of the dedication of Barkley Dam.  The arches and gate got new lights while I was gone and everything looks great.  Thank you Melissa & Marti.

The weather here today is perfect.  The only drawback is that the lake is being dropped to winter pool.  It's down enough that we can no longer see the lake over the break wall--waaa waaa.

The hummingbirds are traveling and are keeping us busy trying to keep the feeders full.  It's not uncommon to see 10-15 birds at a time in the morning & evenings here.

Come on down--the water's warm.

We are in the same hot pot at the rest of you.  Currently it is 94.  I'm not complaining, it's not snow.  Heat & snow are both 4 letter words.  The warmer weather and all the sunshine is heating up the lake water and the outdoor pools nicely.  With the rapidly approaching July 4 holiday, more & more folks are stretching out the weekends and even staying through the week.

The CYC is sponsoring a trip to Prizer Point Marina this coming weekend.  If you would like to go along, contact Danny Cope at 270-332-7636 or dannycope51@gmail.com.  We were able to go last year and it was a lot of fun.

We will be adding a couple more arches to the pier to fill in the dark areas and also replacing some light strings.  If you want to replace the lights on the one near you slip, feel free to do so.  The LED lights don't seem to attract the bugs as much as the incadescent ones.  They also don't use much electricity.  The others didn't use much and these use even less.

Have a safe trip to the boat,

Suzy

This is day 2 of fabulous weather--perfect temps, low humitity, no rain. The heat is coming tomorrow and the forecast claims it will stay for a while.  I guess summer is rapidly approaching.  The baby hummingbirds have left the nest.  One nest never did have babies.  Momma just sat on the nest.  She is also gone now.  I want to take a ladder down there to see if there were ever any eggs in the nest.

Dinghy Poker Run is this coming Saturday.  There has been a change in the times.  It will be from 9 to 12 with registration at 9am.  Since it is all on GTB proproperty, it doesn't take long to collect your cards.  Come try your luck.  There will be a band at the club on Saturday.  It is John Pinney and group.  You know the ones with John--Jerry Koerner, Marti May and sometimes Kim Hall (if she gets off work in time and isn't too tired.  It should be fun.

See you soon.

June is bustin' out all over!  The sun is shining and it's 89 outside.  What a great holiday weekend we just had!  First off--there was no rain.  It was a tad bit windy but we had sunshine all three days.  There was plenty of people on the pier to enjoy this wonderful weather.  There weren't too many boats that didn't have someone on them.  The Flag Retirement ceremony was well attended and about 30 flags were retired.

Mike and Jan Winkler made it back yesterday.  Welcome home from your winter travels.

There is a Dinghy Poker Run on June 11.  It all takes place here on GTB property.  You can travel by dinghy, jet ski for by foot to various places to pick up you cards.  Registration is at 10am by the Ships Store.  The "Run" is from 11am to 3pm.  Awards for best & worst hand that evening at the Yacht Club.  Come join in the fun!

Have a safe trip to the boat.

Today was only supposed to be a 20% chance of rain.  I think they meant to predict 20% chance of no rain.  It's been a steady rain for over 2 hours now. Last week I tried to post pictures of the bird nests but it didn't happen.  I still don't have pictures but if you click on each of the Hummingbird 2016 below, they will come up.  Apparently my skills using this program aren't as good as I thought.  I expect to see a lot of pier sixers this weekend.  We have had a lot of activity this past week with a lot of boats getting cleaned.

This is our one-time friendly reminder about the dock carts--we now only have three.  Please empty them right away and return them to the end of the pier.  Your neighbor may be the one that shows up at 2am and it's not fun searching the pier for a cart at that hour.

Also---one more thing.  We all know our four legged friends sometimes have a difficult time making it to the grass.  Not a problem.  Just grab a nearby hose and clean it off.  We all say THANK YOU for this consideration.

The flag retirement is this Saturday at 10am on the beach.  If you have an old flag, you can leave it at the ship's store or give it to Emory.  We will see that it gets taken to the ceremony.  Everyone is welcome to the ceremony and you can bring your flag then if you choose.

Have a safe trip to the boat.

Hummingbirds pier 6 2016This is pretty much a weather report this week.  Not much happening around here currently.  The rain & cold is what it's all about.

I can post pictures of the hummingbirds on their nests.  Ellen Moore posted them on facebook and I stole them (don't tell her).

Have a good week and the holiday is rapidly approaching.  Speaking of the holiday, there will be a flag retirement ceremony on the beach.  Drop off you tired and tattered flags at the ship's store and they will destroyed properly.

Lots of bad storms south of here yesterday but none at all here.  The weather today is beautiful.  A few sprinkles early this morning but nothing to ruin the day.

We have another momma hummingbird sitting on a nest.  This is a new nest. Emory has a feeder near each nest.  We will have babies in about 3 weeks.

The Derby party was great fun and there were several people taking advantage of the fire extinguisher inspection.

Hope to see all of you soon,

Spring is still springing.  I think the pollen is getting less but it is far from being gone.  We are beginning to see a few different people every weekend.  People are wanting to be sure their boats are shipshape for the Memorial Day weekend--nothing like a few little test drives before the big day.

The hummingbirds are back.  We even have one already sitting on an old nest.  This is the first time we have seen a nest reused.  We were going to replace the lights on that arch but now it will have to wait until the babies are gone-at least 6 weeks.

Don't forget the Derby Party at 3pm at the Club.  Wear you best Derby Hat!  This is another reminder about First Line Fire Extinguisher being in Dockers parking lot Saturday morning at 10am.  This is a convenient & easy way to make sure everything is in working order.

That's it for this week.  Have a safe trip to the boat.

Suzy
