It's taken me a few days to sit down in front of the computer to write something.  The most important this is THE WATER IS ON!  It was turned on this afternoon.  The work on Dockers is finished.  It will be reopening on the 10th-a week from Thursday.  The club has been open Wed thru Sun for a while now and we have a place to hang after a slow winter's day.  The work on the indoor pool is finished and the heater repaired.  It's all spiffed up-even with a new TV.  Don't know what plans are in store for that.

The Pirate's Market is coming up the Saturday morning of the Boat Show. If you are already sorting out things not to be used this season bring them on down and sell them.  Everyone is welcome.

John Graybill is the only one that has taken advantage of the wonderful weather the past two weekends.  He even washed his boat last weekend.

See you soon,

Suzy

We are still riding the weather roller coaster.  Very warm (high 60s) last weekend, cold (high 20s) the middle of the week and warm again this weekend.  I posted a picture from a year ago on facebook today.  It was of the gulls sitting on the ice in the bay.  Knowing that, I can't complain.

Not too much happening around here.  Reed Riley was down here to summerized a boat.  Tom Moody is working on Dockers--from my vantage point it appears to mostly be maintainence.  The indoor pool has been closed for a couple weeks.  The heating element is broken and on order.  While they are waiting, the ceiling is getting painted.  The pool area is also getting redecorated.  You will have to stop by and check it out.

That's it for this week,

Suzy

Well, my comments last week were a lot of wishful thinking.  Not only was it COLD, there was SNOW.  Those are two four-letter words that I hate.  We went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast Sunday morning with friends from Pier 4.  There were flurries when we went in and when we came out an hour later there was 4 inches on the ground.  It was warming up yesterday and melting quickly.  It's foggy this am but not as bad as yesterday.   It's supposed to be in the 60s this week end.

It was good food and a good time at the Valentines party at the club.  The floor at the club was repaired while it was closed and is ship shape.  The club is now open Wed. thru Sun.

The annual Pirate's Market is coming up April 9.  So as you start sorting out things for the boat, put the unwanted things aside for the sale.  You may make enough money to buy new things for the boat.

The warm is coming.

We are hoping that the worse weather is past and that there won't be too many more cold days.  I hope so anyway since our 'reliable' ground hog has predicted an early spring.  Things around here are quiet and we are taking advantage of the time to get our own winter projects done.  The marina has been doing the same.  They are using our idea of lighted arches to illuminate the other covered piers.  Some of the pvc pipe arches are up and will be lit when the electricity is run.

The Mid Winter Blues party this past Saturday was a lot of fun--especially, since we had a surprise.  The band performed a song John Pinney had written for our 50th anniversary.  IT WAS GREAT!  We even had cake and were forced to wear crowns-for a short while.  Marti May was the instigator. A big THANK YOU for all this and we truly appreciate all the well wishes.

Don't forget the Valentines party coming up next weekend.

Maybe we will be getting to put away our winter coats soon.

OK, January is finished.  We are one month closer to boating season. The weather this past weekend was amazing.  Bill Berlin even took his boat out for a cruise with a few friends on board.  I also saw a facebook post of a sailing friend who took advantage of the sunshine and wind.  The Peppers needed a boat fix and spent Sat. night with us and they slept very well because they were on a boat.

While the water is on, I will need to hose off some of the pier.  I think the big cranes are walking on the pier more than we are.  It's really been nice to have water for a few days in a row--I get to run the dish washer!

Since the flood waters have receeded, we have a new snag on the breakwater.  It is a big root ball that looks like some mutant dead insect.

I want to wish Bob & Faye Simmons Happy Anniversary.  It is number 54 for them.  True love lasts.  Our very best wishes to you.

Mid Winter Blues Party this coming Friday evening.  A pre-party bring-your-own-appetizer get together at the indoor pool starting at 3:30ish. Be there or be square.

All the snow of the past week is gone.  What a relief that is!  We moved the boat yesterday back to pier 6 and have settled back into our routine. Along with us and the Youngs on their boats, Dale and Dr. Kim are staying on board their boats.  It was cold enough on Sunday that we had a skim of ice on the bay and it was gone the next day.  When we got back to the pier I saw that my petunias were dead-black & frozen.  When we left for the transient dock they were still alive and blooming.  Now I have yard work to do in January.  The weather has been above freezing the past two days.  That means no bubblers are running and we have water.

Don't forget the Mid Winter Blues Party Feb. 6.

Stay warm

I will now be making weekly comments here.  We lost access to the previous website last week.  As you can imagine, there is absolutely nothing happening on the pier.  The water is below summer pool and we are nearing winter pool.  Station 10 is still parked at the transient dock.  We haven't been motivated enough to move back to our home slip yet.  I think it is due in part to the fact that we have neighbors here.  I do miss the sunrises from our end of the pier & our satillite TV service; so therefore,  I don't see us being here much past this week.  Since the cable service here has changed hands, our TV entertainment choices are incredibly limited.  The weather here is the same as it is for most of you-COLD.  There is a Mid-winter Blues party at the club Feb. 6.  John Pinney & crew are playing.  That's a good reason to get out of the house and come check on the boat.

Have a good week and spring will arrive eventurally.

Everyone,

I am recruiting one person from each Dock that is involved in the daily (or weekend) happenings of the dock to serve as a Pier Representative (Pier Rep.) for the following tasks:

  • To send messages to about CYC events, such as cruises, cookouts (Annual Seafood Boil, Annual BBQ), public board functions (Marina Day, Flag Retirement Ceremony, etc.) and special news from all sources.
  • To inform pier residents and promote those events that are in line with and complement the events of the pier.
  • To monitor and/or manage the Group Page on the CYC Web Site for the group.  This can be a great place to publish for all pier members to see, the events, if any, established by the residents and resident coordinators on each pier.  You could even use this group page, and other pages you create and link to the group, as a mini-web site targeted to the communications needs of the pier.
  • Participate in monthly "Pier Coordinator Meetings" to help develop this program and "blaze a trail" for the future benefit of the pier.

If you would be willing to help or know someone on the pier that might be interested, please respond to me or forward this message.  My goal is to make sure the entire population of the Green Turtle Bay Marina knows everything there is to do, all the time.

Regards,

Butch Jones, IPC
