A place for members to find & share information about the happenings of the CYC
Warmest Season’s Greetings to you all! I am Sharla Sparks, the newly elected Commodore of the Commonwealth Yacht Club. What an honor to be asked to serve in such a manner!
I would like to send out an official THANK YOU to everyone who served the Commonwealth Yacht Club this past year. It takes a lot of energy and dedication from the officers, directors, and members of the club to make such great activities happen, and this year was no exception. Your board is currently busily making lists and checking them twice to make sure that we have plenty of fun activities on the calendar for our members and guests. Be sure to watch this publication and the dock pockets around Green Turtle Bay for details of our many endeavors.
As many of you may know, one of my favorite activities, and the exact reason I came to be a part of the CYC Board of Directors, is our Sailing Series. The CYC Sailing Series has run for the last several years, accumulating a dedicated following of racers who I know are eagerly awaiting the return of spring for a chance to try out that new gear, avenge a grudge from some past defeat, or just enjoy some lively time in their sailboats on Kentucky Lake along with friendly rivalries nearby! Our series offers the perfect opportunity for new sailors to ride along with experienced racers, learning the fine art of strategy (and perhaps the more coarse art of “talking smack” to competitors!) and eventually entering their own boats into the series. I encourage everyone to check out our Sailing Series; even powerboaters can hitch a ride! We sailors know you like to go fast, but we can promise some excitement where you can hear your crewmates talk at the same time!
I am looking forward to a thrilling new set of adventures in this great organization. Please don’t hesitate to contact me or any of your board members with ideas for how we can be better over the coming year. You can find me most weekdays in Green Turtle Bay’s very own Yacht Sales office, or email me at email@example.com. On the warmer weekends, just look for the group of sailboats all trying to get around the mark at the same time!
