CYC NAUTINEWS ARTICLE FOR
Here we are in January and baby it’s cold outside!! This is for the brave hearts who are wintering up North. Winter cold, snow and dreary days makes me want to hunker down and hibernate along with Punxsutawney Phil, hopefully when we pop up on February 2 we will not see our shadows.
The good news about cold weather is we burn more calories in cold temperatures than warm temperatures. The not so good news is we want to avoid (SAD) Seasonal Affective Disorder. They say staying inside promotes feeling bummed and grumpy, so there goes hunkering down!! Exposure to outdoor light even when it’s cloudy helps balance serotonin and melatonin, which lifts our moods. Therefore, let’s get outside, start moving and embrace the winter.
Let’s talk about CYC events in December.
The CYC “Ugly Sweater” Christmas party was loads of fun with 37 Degrees North entertaining us.
Sorry, if you missed it. Food was excellent with great appetizers, main course meals and topping off the evening hot chocolate and cookies.
The CYC then welcomed 2017 with the annual New Year’s Eve dinner and dance with another terrific party and brunch at midnight.
Sooo, what’s going on in January -- Nothing!! The Commonwealth Yacht Club is closed for its annual face lift. Green Turtle Bay Resort is open, rent a condo for the weekend and enjoy nature at it’s finest.
The next party will be the annual Valentine’s party on February 11, 2017. This event will be held either at the CYC or Green Turtle Bay’s Conference Center which will be announced in January so stay tuned. There will also be a board meeting on February 11 at 9:00am. 2017 CYC board events are still being scheduled so if anyone has suggestions contact Commodore Jerry at firstname.lastname@example.org .
The Commonwealth Cup Regatta committee has started Kentucky Lake Race Week planning. If anyone would like to donate door prizes contact Commodore Jerry or email me.
Have a terrific January and think warm thoughts. See you at the Valentine’s party in February!!
