It’s July, finally summer 2016!!  July and August at the lake are the lazy, hazy days of summer. Cook outs; cooling off and soaking up the sun in one of Green Turtle Bays 2 outdoor pools; anchoring out in one of many beautiful coves on Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lakes or evenings just relaxing at the Commonwealth Yacht Club enjoying a delicious meal and visiting with friends. 

 

Starting off in July is the July 2, the 4th of July bash at the Commonwealth Yacht Club with dinner and dancing.  Entertainment by DJ Songbird.

July 2 is also a Spring Sailing Series race.  Meet Sharla on Kentucky Lake at 10:00am for a fun, filled morning of racing.

The CYC Board meeting is July 9 at 8:30am at the CYC.

Don’t forget the inaugural Grand Rivers Dragon Boat Festival on July 16th from 9:00am-4:00pm. There will be music, vendors and friendly boat racing competition for a great cause.  CYC Board along with GTB is sponsoring a Dragon Boat to compete in the races with 20 rollers, 10 men and 10 women in each boat. Brian Turner is the committee chairman and is in the process of recruiting rollers for the team.  Consider joining the “Yachting Turtles” for the time of your life competing for a team trophy, contact Brian at bturner@kascocorp.com to join the team.   Proceeds from this Grand Rivers event will go to Livingston County Helping Hands.  If you are not competing on a team come “Cheer” us on and enjoy the festivities!! 

July 23rd is another CYC cruise raft up.  Long Range Fleet Captain Danny Cope is checking out the best coves on Kentucky Lake to raft up at.

Watch for flyers and emails about where to meet.    

   

August 6th is the CYC Board Meeting at 8:30 at the Commonwealth Yacht Club.  Contact Commodore David Jernigan if you have any event suggestions or concerns. 

Also mark your calendars for the “CYC Get Together” party on August 6 from 3:00pm-5:00pm at the Commonwealth Yacht Club for all slip/condo owners, members and non-members of the CYC at Green

Turtle Bay.  Watch for your invitation to come in the mail.  Commentary appetizers and drinks will be furnished. Come for a fun afternoon to make new friends, greet old friends and meet members of your Commonwealth Yacht Clubs Board of Directors.

August 12th is the CYC Party of the Decade.  Dress in any era you like@50’s, 60’s, 70’s or 80’s?   Entertainment by 37 Degree’s North—John, Jerry and friends. 

You absolutely cannot miss August 13th which is GTB Marina Day.   Food vendors, music and games abound.  Watch the grand finale fireworks at sunset from the Yacht Club enjoying a delicious meal.    

 

Regatta Fleet Captain Sharla Graham is in serious planning stages for our Commonwealth Cup Regatta/Kentucky Lake Race Week September 24-October 2, 2016.

This regatta is the Commonwealth Yacht Club Board of Directors major fundraiser of the year.  We are presently collecting donations for our Regatta Door Prize Donation tickets.  If you would like to make a donation, contact Sharla at  Shar508@gmail.com . Some of our donations in 2015 were 18 holes of golf; tickets for 8 to Badgett theatre; Linen Basket; nautical quilt, pictures and frames, to mention just a few. We are always in need of  volunteers too.

 

July and August at the Bay are the summer months to just chill and enjoy the summer warmth.  See you out on the lake just “Chillin!!
