Commonwealth Yacht Club

A place for members to find & share information about the happenings of the CYC

NautiNews | February 2018 | By: Ann Donnelly

We made it through January and for most of us, it’s only around 6 weeks to boating season, or less, depending on what Mother Nature dishes out to us.  Although still turtle neck and wool sock weather here in the Midwest, we are gaining around 2 ½ minutes of daylight every day in February.  Spring officially begins with the Spring Equinox on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, this event marks the astronomical first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere.  I say Bring on the Sunshine, it just makes us happy!

February 8th, the CYC reopens for the season, hooray!!  The annual Mid Winters Blues party is planned to be February 3rd at the Commonwealth Yacht Club. The first board meeting for 2018 will be February 10 at 9:00am at the Commonwealth Yacht Club.  Contact Commodore Sharla Sparks if you have any event suggestion or wish to volunteer at any CYC sponsored event, at

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with your sweetheart or just celebrate at the Commonwealth Yacht Club on February 10th.

Enjoy great food, entertainment and visit with all your friends you have missed seeing during the winter months.  Check out Green Turtle Bay’s “Sweetheart” Condo rental package, call GTB at 270-362-8364 to book your condo.

March events at the CYC and GTB begins on March 3rd with the CYC board meeting at 9:00am at the Commonwealth Yacht Club.   Plan to watch the Grand Rivers LBL Ultra Run on March 10th.  Come Celebrate “Wearing of the Green” by putting on your favorite green outfits, or risk being pinched, at CYC’s annual St. Patrick’s Day party on March 17th. This party is one of the most fun parties ever, don’t miss it!

If you have started your spring cleaning, mark your calendar to participate at the CYC Pirates Market on April 21 and just remember your junk is someone else’s treasure!!

As always, we will place fliers of upcoming CYC activities and events in the Pier dock pockets located on the Pier gates and at various other locations around the marina.

See Everyone Soon!
