October CYC Nautinews Article
As usual, summer has gone by way too fast. I think it was a fun, crazy and busy summer. Now that fall is upon us, we have to take advantage of all the fall events at Green Turtle Bay, Commonwealth Yacht Club and Grand Rivers. Fall to me means crunchy leaves, pumpkin – flavored everything, fall foliage, along with the Commonwealth Cup Regatta, Grand Rivers Hunter’s Moon Festival and of course Halloween.
According to the Huffington Post, Kentucky fall foliage features brilliant hues and spectacular scenery. Changing colors of leaves in autumn is one of nature’s most beloved rites of passage and makes for one of the most popular and inexpensive getaways for families to see. Among one of the most scenic routes in western Kentucky is the Woodlands Trace National Scenic Byway in Land between the Lakes National Recreation areas. Come to visit Green Turtle Bay marina on Barkley Lake to see nature’s spectacular display of color with peak foliage in late October 2016.
Events in October at your Commonwealth Yacht Club, Green Turtle Bay marina and Grand Rivers begins on October 1st and October 2nd with the 11th Annual Commonwealth Cup Regatta and Colonel’s Revenge races. It is always breathtaking for me every year to see the racing sail boats in full sail on Kentucky Lake. Hope everyone will be able to witness this spectacular race.
Be sure to catch the parade and events on October 8th at the Grand River’s Hunter Moon Festival. Then enjoy a relaxing time and delicious meal at CYC’s Hunter Moon Party the evening of October 8th.
October 9th is the Commonwealth Yacht Club’s Annual Membership meeting. All CYC members are invited to attend this meeting at the Commonwealth Yacht Club beginning at 10:00 am.
Come and see how your board works with the election of board members and officers and enjoy a delicious brunch.
CYC’s Fall Sailing Series continues on October 29th and November 5th.
Meet on Kentucky Lake around 10:00 am or contact Rear Commodore Sharla Graham.
No one should miss Commonwealth Yacht Club’s annual Halloween party on October 29th. Plan to dress in your favorite ghoulish costume or just come and get spooked. Booo!!
November 4th is Grand River’s Festival of Lights and then November 5th is Commonwealth Yacht Club’s Festival of Lights party. You have to plan to come to Grand Rivers and see the stupendous and amazing light display this holiday season. The lights will take your breath away.
October 6th is the last day Dockers’ restaurant is open for the season. This is always a sad day for me!!
November 15th begins “Fill the Trolley” for Livingston county food pantry. Green Turtle bay is closed on November 24, Thanksgiving Day.
Happy October to everyone!!
Hope to see you at the Lake,
